The Alliance of Science Organisations is celebrating the Basic Law with a nationwide campaign, which has been protecting the freedom of science for 70 years. The most important article is Article 5, Paragraph 3 of the "Grundgesetz".
With contributions to debates, discussion events, lectures, interview series and a podcast, the campaign deals with the various aspects of scientific freedom. How do scientists deal with this freedom? Where does science have to explain itself more? Where is freedom endangered and where does it reach ethical limits? All information about the campaign and the events can be found at wissenschaftsfreiheit.de (only in German).
The campaign is a sign of the importance of freedom in research and teaching, which is made possible by the German Basic Law. It ends in a closing event with a prominent audience at the Futurium in Berlin on September 26, 2019. Here, the importance of education and science for an open, changing society will once again be discussed.
