«Truth in Imagination - Wild Animals in Closed Rooms» - three authors, three ways how to deal with fiction and truth.
Daniel Kehlmann is one of the best-known German authors. His 2005 published novel "Vermessung der Welt" (Measuring the world) has been translated into 40 languages. His most recent publication is "F" - a tale of three brothers and the question of fate and destiny, truth and lie, original and fake.
In Justin Torres' novel "We Animals" there are also three brothers in focus, untameable in their ferocity. Excited about the debut of the US author, Teresa Präauer, teaching now at the same time with Justin Torres in Germany, wrote in 2014 " ... the language carries and turns the reader in the rhythm of the novel until the end, and that is intense, beautiful, scarce, also witty, so that you have to open this hard childhood book again after just having it closed. Rarely, something like that."
The hero in Teresa Präauers third novel becomes also an animal. Even better: He makes a fool of himself not just figuratively, but also in most literal sense by becoming an ape. Whether he still wins over his beloved Ninni after numerous unsuccessful attempts, remains to be seen until the publication of the novel in the autumn.
